Jackson Heights Gets Most Snowfall Recorded In Tri-State Area

Jackson Heights received more snowfall over the weekend than anywhere in the tri-state area, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

According to the NOAA’s National Weather Service, Jackson Heights received 34 inches of snow, the most of any town or neighborhood in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut.

The 34 inches was reported by a trained spotter at 12 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a National Weather Service report.

JFK Airport was close behind, with an FAA observer reporting 30.5 inches of snow piled up on Sunday at 1 a.m.

Of the handful of Queens neighborhoods for which the National Weather Service has data, Sunnyside received the smallest amount of snowfall, with 20 inches reported by amateur radio at 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

The NOAA report was released at 11:40 a.m. on Sunday morning. It states that it is an unofficial report.
