Calling all Jackson Heights teachers.

Amanda Vender, a teacher who lives in Jackson Heights, has scheduled a “teachers’ meet up” for all teachers who live in the neighborhood.

The meet up will take place on Jan. 22 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Ready Penny Inn, located at 37-07 73rd St.

Vender, a middle school teacher at a public school in Corona, has wanted to schedule a teachers’ meet up for some time.

“Teaching is a hard job and I think it’s good for teachers to support one another,” she said. “I think it would be fun to meet other teachers in the neighborhood.”

She said this event would allow teachers to share stories, ideas and experiences, while relaxing and having fun.

“It could be an opportunity to learn from other teachers or gain inspiration,” she said. “I don’t know what will come from it but it should be fun.”

The meet up is open to anyone who lives in the neighborhood and teaches from pre-K to 12th grade, whether in public, private or charter schools.

“I know there are a lot of teachers that live in Jackson Heights,” she said. “This is a good way to bring them all together.”

Vender decided to pick the Ready Penny Inn to host this gathering because she felt it is the best venue to meet new people.

“It is spacious and won’t be too crowded and loud,” she said. “It’s a nice environment to talk to people.”

Vender expects approximately 10 teachers to show up, although she said it is hard to gauge a number.

She is not sure if this will be a one-time gathering or if it can become a regular event going forward.

“This is something I have wanted to do and I need as a teacher,” she said. “I will see how this event goes and go from there.”

Vender is looking forward to the opportunity to meet fellow teachers in the neighborhood.

“We all need to go out and relax sometimes,” she said. “Teachers too.”
