Good Samaritan Chased Robber Who Stole Woman’s Phone in Corona

July 13, 2020 By Allie Griffin

A good Samaritan chased after a robber who stole a woman’s cell phone on a Corona street Saturday–and was able to get it back.

The man witnessed the robbery from his window at around 6:30 a.m. near 37-62 101st St., police said.

The good Samaritan saw the suspect bump into a 48-year-old woman and then grab the victim’s hair. He saw the pair struggle — causing the woman’s phone to fall to the ground. The alleged robber then grabbed the phone and fled southbound on 101st Street, police said.

The witness ran out and chased after the thief, who dropped the phone at the end of the block while fleeing, according to the NYPD.

The phone was returned to the woman, who was not seriously injured, police said.

Police have released video footage of the suspect.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of this male is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.
