Rep. Grace Meng has all but won the Democratic primary for the 6th District after fending off a number of challengers last night.

Meng had generated 61 percent of the vote, beating rivals Melquiades Gagarin, who had 21 percent, and Sandra Choi, 17 percent, according to the Board of Elections unofficial election results.

This was the first time since taking office in January 2013 that Meng has faced primary challengers. The district covers the neighborhoods of Auburndale, Bayside, Elmhurst, Flushing, Forest Hills, Glendale, Kew Gardens, Maspeth, Middle Village, Murray Hill and Rego Park.

The results are not final, since an unprecedented number of absentee ballots have yet to be counted. The BOE will begin counting absentee ballots by hand after June 30.

Meng’s lead, however, is so great that she is almost assured of victory.

Meng will face Republican Thomas Zmich, who ran unopposed in his primary. She seeks a fifth term.

As a Democrat, Meng is almost certain to win.
