A founding partner of the Queensboro FC has been able to use his business contacts to acquire 1,000 surgical masks and donate them to Elmhurst Hospital.

Jonathan Krane, a club partner and CEO of the New York-based asset management firm KraneShares, was able to reach out to his contacts in China who were able to secure the masks. He teamed up with Council Member Francisco Moya to make sure the protective equipment reached hospital staff.

Krane announced last year the formation of the Queensboro FC, a professional club that will start playing in 2021. Legendary Spanish striker David Villa is a co-partner in the venture.

“Healthcare professionals are on the front line of this crisis and we need to make sure they’re able to suit up for that fight,” Moya said, who once worked at Elmhurst Hospital as the director of business development. “Doctors, nurses and hospital staff are the heroes of this moment. We need to make every effort, big and small, to get them the armor they need to stay in the fight.”

Hospitals across the country are facing a national shortage of protective equipment such as medical gloves, gowns and masks. The shortage has led to inflated prices for the items, given their scarcity.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, for instance, noted last week that the cost of masks had also skyrocketed. Masks that previously cost $0.85 now cost as much as $7.00, he said.

Moya and Krane are working to secure additional shipments of masks from China for additional donations.

“We will do everything in our power to support Queens during this crisis and every day after,” Krane said. “Thank you to the front-line heroes. All of us at Queensboro FC and across the city are deeply grateful for your work and sacrifices.”

The victim was standing on the southbound M/R platform at the 59th Avenue subway station on the Queens Boulevard line when a stranger approached her and touched her left buttocks, police said. The brute fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The woman was not injured during the incident.
