A transgender woman is in critical condition after being beaten outside of her Jackson Heights home in what police say may be a hate crime.
The 35-year-old victim was attacked following an argument with a man, who slammed the victim’s head against the sidewalk, according to police.

The victim, whose given name was Ricardo Sal but goes by the name Kathy, is currently in Elmhurst Hospital receiving treatment for facial and cranium fractures and bleeding in the brain. She is currently on a respirator, according to the NYPD.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30’s, according to police. He fled the scene after the attack.

The incident occurred in front of 37-50 93rd Street, between Elmhurst Ave and Roosevelt Ave, at approximately 4 am on Sunday morning, police said.
The Hate Crimes Task Force is conducting an investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
