A new Banana Republic store opened its doors for the first time this morning on 82nd street in Jackson Heights.
Associate manager Derek Kok says the store, which is located at 82nd Street and 37th Avenue, offers a wide range of clothing that is made for factories, not overstocks or imperfect items.
Banana Republic is owned by Gap and Kok said the new store is likely to be successful because the Gap Factory across the street is doing well.
“The Banana Republic customer is different from the Gap customer,” he said.
Kok is a Jackson Heights native and he said, “it’s exciting to be able to come back to work.”
He said he remembers when the historic building the new store inhabits was a Woolworths.
The store already had many customers perusing the racks just two hours after opening.
