A demolition permit has been filed to tear down a 2-story brick building on Queens Boulevard.
The building, which houses a safety equipment story on the ground floor and apartments above, will be replaced by a large mixed-use building. Plans for the new building, to be located at 70-01 Queens Boulevard, were filed in 2017 but are likely to change.
The developer behind the project, Steven Li of STAR POINT 70-01, LLC., bought the triangular-shaped property in November 2016 for $1.45 million. The property is zoned R7X, which permits high-density residential development.
Li, who filed for his demolition permit on Oct. 8, said he aims to bulldoze the brick building by the end of the year and start construction in late 2020.
He filed plans in 2017 for a seven-story mixed-use office building consisting of ground floor retail with medical offices of the higher floors.
However, Li said he is contemplating changing those plans and building residential units on the upper floors instead.

The safety equipment store moved ages ago. .
This is such a charming brick structure and sad it will be destroyed. The only way to save these beautiful buildings is to create an historical society to protect them.
