July 24, 2019, Staff Report

Police have arrested a Jackson Heights man for the pepper spray attack on a transgender woman last month.

David Gonzalez, 34, was charged with two counts of felony assault–hate crime, two counts of aggravated harassment–hate crime and two counts of aggravated harassment.

According to police, the attack occurred on June 29 just after 4 a.m. at Roosevelt Avenue and 82nd Street. Gonzalez allegedly sprayed the 29-year-old victim in her eyes with pepper spray after a verbal dispute in which he made anti-transgender statements, according to police.

The victim was removed to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition with burning and watery eyes.

Gonzalez is the second person to be arrested for anti-transgender attacks that day, following the arrest of Elmhurst resident Paola Custodio shortly after the fact.

No one deserves to be pepper sprayed, no matter how supposedly loud or disruptive they might be. I am so disgusted by the offensive and transphobic comments some people have left under this article.

I ve seen this transgender women/men or whatever in the subway. They behave very provocatively and always draw attention to themselves. No wonder that at 4 am (what the hell was he:she doing there anyway) they got sprayed, most likely after being loud and obnoxious.

That's disrespectful to Giuliani

That’s a great point, people deserve to be violently assaulted because of the way they dress.

But Giuliani was our mayor, be patriotic and support him.

Wow, blaming the victim of a violent assault

I guess I should be surprised after Trump lovers praised the murderous Charlottesville rally.

Why don’t you arrest the tranny for prostitution and harassing passerbys, she’s well known, this is my neighborhood I see her every other night

Andy- You need to call the police and log a complaint. Stop looking for others to do it for you. You see someone breaking the law report it. It’s laziness that allows much of this behavior to persist.

Sure. Police will arrest her and then a progressive DA will let her go because prostitution is not a crime anymore
