NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst celebrated the grand opening of its new $1 million outpatient care center for adults and adolescents yesterday.

The newly renovated 6,500 square foot center, located inside the hospital campus at 80th Street and 41st Avenue, focuses on expanding primary and preventive care with the goal of keeping the community healthy and out of the hospital.

The center, which handled about 30,000 patients last year out of 20 exam rooms, now features 10 additional exam rooms, as well as larger waiting areas and updated clinical equipment.

The expansion will allow clinicians to see an additional 10,000 patients a year, meaning an additional 50 patients a day. It is expected to reduce wait times and increase patient satisfaction.

“Enhancing and building our primary care capacity is key to NYC Health + Hospitals’ effort to reducing emergency room utilization and building long lasting, healthy relationships with our patients,” said Mitchell Katz, MD, President and CEO of NYC Health Hospitals in a release.

The clinic offers services that include internal medicine, pediatric health, optometry, radiology, vaccinations, infection control, nutrition counseling, and confidential gynecologist appointments.

Local officials, such as Council Member Daniel Dromm, said the facility will provide residents with access to more efficient healthcare.

“I am pleased by the Hospital’s emphasis on preventative care that addresses health issues before they become severe enough to warrant hospitalization of a patient,” said Council Member Dromm in a release. “This helps ensure more efficient care for all.”
