Man Robs Teens at Knifepoint Near 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue Station: NYPD

Location of Robbery (Google Maps) and Picture of Suspect (NYPD Crimestoppers)

June 5, 2019 By Meghan Sackman

Police are searching for a man who forced two teenagers out of the 74 Street-Roosevelt Avenue station at knifepoint on Monday and then robbed them nearby.

The suspect approached the teenage boys (a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old) in the mezzanine area of the station around 11:36 a.m. and asked them to follow him out on to the street.

Police say the teens initially refused but the suspect exposed a knife and forced them to follow him to 41-05 74 Street. The suspect then forced the teens to hand over their cell phones and $20 total in cash.

The suspect then fled in an unknown direction on foot.

Police describe the suspect as black, between 20 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighing about 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue du-rag, a white tank top, blue sweatpants, white sneakers, and he had a dark colored shirt slung over his shoulder.

Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

So follow an armed robber to a dead end street that’s your plan? More likely than not the robber wouldn’t have chased them because that would attract attention to the robber. When a guy pulled a box cutter on me and demanded my money on 76th street and 37th road I ran top speed into the middle of Roosevelt Avenue and then towards the train station he only followed me half a block and gave up. He didn’t want the attention of looking like he’s chasing someone. So what’s your plan if that happens just give it up and maybe they’ll leave me alone. I bet you would tell one of those little girls who gets groped on the 7 train just let the guy touch you and he’ll go away when he’s done. Don’t scream and don’t run. Nice plan Oscar.

Whole life- Talk about going off track and putting words in someones mouth. I’m not a “know it all like you” but know enough that every crime is unique in circumstance participants and nature and not to paint every crime with the same brush.

Dave all I am trying to say is that people should have some kind of plan for these type of events. Don’t just walk around thinking it can’t or won’t happen to you. Those kids followed the guy for 2 blocks because he showed them a knife. If they would have been told by their parents or teachers what options they have they might not have gotten robbed.

Most likely this has nothing to do with homelessness. Your post is really sad and it’s a shame you have nothing else going on in your life but this sort of thing. Seriously, try to get something going to distract you from this pent-up anger of yours.

Hey robber du rags have been out of style for almost 20 years. And to the kids who got robbed why did you follow him to a dead street. The second you hit the sidewalk you should’ve both ran in different directions. He can’t chase 2 people. Also parents teach your kids what to do in these kinds of situations because yelling help, police just doesn’t work.
