Representatives of Target and Queens Place Mall Perplexed By Community Board’s Announcement of Their Closure

Representatives of Queens Place Mall and its Target location were baffled when they heard an announcement made by the chairman of Community Board 4 Tuesday that they were closing by the end of the year.

Louis Walker, Community Board 4 chair, said at the board’s monthly meeting Tuesday night that the mall is likely to close by December and that Target is looking to move from that location to Middle Village.

Walker said the announcement has yet to be made official but that the recent spate of closures at the mall is a good indicator of its fate.

“It appears that the Queens Place Mall is going to be closing come December of this year,” Walker said. “If you’ve been in there recently, there are several stores that are already gone.”

But representatives of Queens Place Mall and Target refuted these claims and wondered where Walker got his facts.

Brandon L Singer, Managing Director of Cushman and Wakefield, the realty agent for the mall was completely astounded by the announcement and said there are no such plans for the mall.

“That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” Singer said. “That’s 100 percent not true.”

A corporate spokesperson for Target was also unaware of any plans for the store to relocate to Middle Village.

“We have no store closure plans to share at this time,” she said after saying that the information was unfounded and planned to contact Community Board 4 to keep them updated.

Walker expanded on his announcement at the meeting by pondering what would happen to the mall upon its closure.

“That’s a rather large parcel of land. We should be quite concerned to know what’s going to end up in that space if it doesn’t remain a mall,” he said.

Walker could not be reached for comment.

They might not be closing the entire store but there are loads of items on the upper floor marked “do not inventory.”

To the idiot JH resident said immigrants don’t pay tax, white American Leona Helmsley was the one committed tax evasions. I’m sure many more American born didn’t pay tax, won’t pay tax, I meant white, black, brown, red, yellow, purple Americans.

As much as I dislike Helmsley she was convicted of evading less than 2% of her total tax bill. Would you like to be held to that standard? Inflammatory though non evidentiary statements not withstanding.

There are many factors involved. What I see are greedy developers swooping in on areas + demolishing – building high rises. Who can afford to pay for the apts? Who would want to reside on Queens Blvd? It is more corruption!

I have seen many stores closing, it ok if they go to another site, that may be bigger and better parking, but the store closings? I have seen from A&S, Gertz,Grants,Woolworths,Alexanders,EJ Korvetts,Caldor,Sears,Kmart, Friendly Frost, and so many others, all that is left is Shopping on Line. Which is really not a good thing.. You have to buy and send back if its not to your liking… Please Lets get some sort of control! There are no stores left, almost, Queens is becoming a Concert City!!!

Target should move into Toys R Us or National Liquidators building at 48 Street. If not we could use a Cosco or Trader Joes .

I heard that the plan is to build a BJs where National once stood. Hope it’s true. Traders would be awesome too!!

This has nothing to do with non documented Immigrants that Do pay their taxes BTW, it has to do with greedy Americans and Greedy Rich immigrants who come here to buy these properties and convert them into space we dont need. Look what happen to the Georgia diner space. Why don’t they build housing that us Middle Class or poorest people can afford? If not, leave our Target alone and go to Manhattan to make your dirty deals.

The community needs to have a Target in that location. They have better prices and you can find anything there. Keep Target!!!

Very simple. Loius Walker and CB 4 have already received their “envelopes” from the developers. See Melinda Katz for like minded decisions. Oh I want Claire S. back. Please…

I’m a Bronx resident,& I had shopped at that mall a few times with my friends. They had lots of interesting items to buy. I’m surprised that to read this. We don’t need anymore high rise condos.

There’s always one with an idiotic comment. There’s more of you on welfare that aren’t paying taxes either still has nothing to do with the issue.

I don’t know what immagrants are, but immigrants do pay taxes. And somehow I’m sure neither one affects whether a Target or mall stays open or closes by paying taxes.

Immigrants do pay taxes. And the ones who are undocumented can’t collect any benefits at all.

In fairness to the trolls, the children of illegal immigrants can and do collect benefits. If you wish to know how get a lawyer or social worker. I’m not here to advocate for the practice.

“IF iMmIgRanTS pAiD TaXEs” oh I’m sorry I could have responded with something more civilized like “the large majority of undocumented people do pay taxes without ever benefiting from them in their life” but I’m sure you wouldn’t understand that or even bother to research before you post something so stupid judging from your comment.

First of all Anthony JH does that to get a rise out of people he wants replies and likes. Check any story where his comments are found he always spells immigrants incorrectly. Second of all those undocumented aliens do reap many benefits from paying taxes. There children get free educations with free breakfast and lunch every single school day. They can use our hospitals, public transportation, and roads all things that everyone’s taxes pay for. You must not have kids in public school and I assume you don’t get your healthcare from Elmhurst hospital. If you did you would see the entire community legal residents as well as undocumented getting services their taxes pay for.

If corporations like Amazon and Apple paid their fair share there would be no immigrant scapegoats. Then again people like you would find another fake reason to demonize immigrants

IRS estimates that about 6 million unauthorized immigrants file individual income tax returns each year. Research reviewed by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office indicates that between 50 percent and 75 percent of unauthorized immigrants pay federal, state, and local taxes.

That Target is much cheaper than the one on Austin Street. Also, Target will price match their website during checkout, so always scan your items first using the mobile Target app.
