Three Queens Members of Congress Call on Head of U.S. Postal Service to Improve Borough Service

Delayed Mail in Queens

Jan. 29, 2018 By Tara Law

Three Queens congress members have called on the head of the U.S. Postal Service to address mail delivery problems in Queens.

The officials, in a Jan. 23 letter addressed to Postmaster General Megan Brennan, listed a series of issues such as delivery delays, incorrectly delivered mail, package problems and poor customer service at local post offices.

The mail conditions are “frankly unacceptable,” the letter said, which was signed by Congress members Joseph Crowley, Grace Meng and Gregory Meeks.

“It has come to our attention from our constituents that mail delivery standards throughout Queens are not meeting even the most basic expectations,” the letter read.

“As you know, New Yorkers rely on the United States Postal Service (USPS) as an effective and dependable means of communication. Essential matters, such as Social Security benefits, bills, vital medical prescriptions and equipment, government issued identifications, and financial documents are processed and delivered by USPS every day.”

The elected officials said the problems need to be addressed “immediately.”

The letter comes on the heels of Winter Storm Grayson, the “bomb cyclone” that hit New York on Jan. 4.that caused mail delays at the time. However, the letter notes that the mail system in Queens has been plagued with problems for some time.

USPS spokesman Xavier Hernandez told the Queens Post that postal service is attempting to correct these problems.

“We share the Members’ concerns and are committed to working with them to resolve issues identified by their offices,” Hernandez wrote in an e-mail. “We will continue to work to ensure all customers receive the level of service they expect and deserve.”

Yes, I agree. I live in Jackson Heights, Queens, 11372 We have not received any mail for the past two days. (Thursday, 12/5 and Friday, 12/6/2019)

The Jackson heights post office is THE ABSOLUTE WORST. They never deliver packages they throw them in an open lobby where anyone who comes in the building can just take and walk away. Their actual attitudes at that post office when you complain are disgruntled and dismissive as though you are the problem for wanting your package delivered to YOU. This is something that is needed to be looked into

3 years in a row I’ve mailed Christmas cards and some got them and some never did! The mail in Astoria is terrible.

I brought mis-delivered mail to the carrier 3 houses away. He threw it back at me and said, so what, no one died. pffft.

I’ve received mail in Jackson Heights, from Manhattan addresses, and it’s not even the same street in Manhattan. Postal service has steadily declined over the years, and I get most of my important items sent electronically now. The mail volume in Jackson Heights is massive due to apartment overcrowding in the neighborhood.

Do you know how many times I receive packages and mail from either down the street or around the corner. The packages I try to bring over because I feel bad that people are waiting for their stuff. How do you mistake and address of 31-51 41st street for 31-51 42nd street constantly.

Oh yes, Anoymous is correct, I forgot about them dumping our mail on our floor in a private four family house and giving our mail to the next door mailbox. I asked the person who I see mostly doing our route what’s wrong and she also said, “it’s the new hirees.” They are doing a terrible job and don’t care about us or the mail. The other day, my netflix was sitting on the floor in front of the mailboxes. Was it so hard to put it in the mailbox with my name on it.

and if you do say something to the carriers you can rest assured you will not get your mail for a long time they will hold a grudge –

for 3 years or more in Woodside this has been a very big problem — mail has been dumped it was in the papers from the woodside post office – mail is never put in the proper mail boxes — packages are left in the lobby’s of buildings and not at the apartment doors they are always wearing headphones on their ears and refuse to answer questions when asked — if you live at your own address your mail goes to another
address — what they should be doing is reading the mail properly — this is a DIASTER — if they are not doing their job – get rid of them – the end — complaints have been made to Mr. JVB also about the Sunnyside post office but apparently he did nothing about it —
