NYPD: 82-year-woman Struck by Car While Crossing Northern Blvd, Listed in Critical Condition

90th Street and Northern Boulevard (GMaps)

Jan. 8, 2018 By Tara Law

An 82-year-old woman was critically injured in Jackson Heights Friday after she fell on Northern Boulevard and was struck by a car, according to police.

The woman was crossing the boulevard around 2 p.m. when she tumbled to the ground. At that moment, a vehicle turning off 90th Street ran her over.

The police are investigating whether the woman slipped on the ice from Thursday’s storm.

The woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The police had yet to receive an update as to her condition as of Monday morning.

The driver remained on the scene, and no charges have been filed.

The driver failed to yield to the pedestrian. She was just about to make it other side of the street when she saw the veichle turn and she even placed her hands up for the car to stop when she got plowed by the driver !!! He was distracted.

Sorry Daniel as much I dislike the mayor and most of his policies, I can support your posted piece of propaganda. It does not match up with the details of the article which state the woman appeared to have slipped on ice and was struck by a car turning onto Northern. Nothing about ripped up asphalt or unmarked cross walks. Is it that hard for you to just stick to the facts? Let me guess you’re fox informed. Have you heard the ones about Hillary selling uranium to the Russians and joining ISIS.

I crossed this exact intersection exactly two days ago. No marking on the road at all, as you can clearly see in the photo (not the Google Streetview of course, which is probably months old). I’m not doubting that the woman slipped on ice, as the article states. I’m also not letting the driver off the hook responsibility-wise, but the DOT needs to be held responsible for the condition of the roads, including markings. If they couldn’t repaint the road marking in a timely manner after repaving, they should have come up with a different schedule to resurface Northern Blvd. This section of Northern Blvd has been without markings for months now, since they milled the road. How is that acceptable?

You’ll notice there are no crosswalks or any markings on the street, because DOT decided to start repaving two months ago. First they ground down the road and left it like that for a month, then they put down more asphalt and then left it unmarked for another month. Northern Blvd is a pedestrian deathtrap under normal conditions. Vision Zero is a big fat joke and De Blasio bears the ultimate responsibility for this. DOT is supposed to be making our streets safer for pedestrians, but they are either doing nothing or making it worse.

well you should all complain to your counsel person about this — and better yet go to the papers that would work better

Anonymous- Complain about what? A driver failing to yield? Ice in winter? Roadwork? Please use complete sentences so you can get your point across.
