The owner of a 37th Avenue Colombian restaurant is opening a sports bar on the same block.

The new bar, to be called Pollos Mario, will be located at 83-14 37th Avenue and is expected to open in September, according to workers.

The owner of the sports bar is the proprietor of Pollos A La Brasa Mario, which is located at 83-02 37th Avenue.

The manager of the Colombian restaurant said the owner wants to open a bar/restaurant with a whole new concept—since he also owns another Pollos A La Brasa Mario at 81-01 Roosevelt Avenue.

“Here [the restaurant] we do not serve alcohol and you come for a meal,” the manager said through a translator.

“There is a different market for a sports bar.”

The restaurant is known for its chicken selection, which includes its rotisserie chicken platter and breaded chicken cutlets. It also has a wide seafood selection, including chowder and fried red snapper.

However, the sports bar will not offer a full menu. Instead it will offer an assortment of tapas.

Pollos Mario is likely to operate from 11 am to midnight throughout the week and much later on Fridays and Saturdays, the manager said.

The sports bar will be able to seat about 130 patrons.
