Following uptick in graffiti, Ferraras-Copeland launches graffiti removal program

Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland launched a graffiti removal program Friday in response to reports that there has been an uptick in vandalism.

The councilwoman has allocated $15,000 toward the program that will fund graffiti cleanups in the 21st Council district through June 30, 2017.   The 21st district includes Corona, East Elmhurst and a chunk of Jackson Heights (click for map).

“We have seen an increase in vandalism in the area over the last few months. This initiative will combat graffiti where we live, shop, learn and pray and make our neighborhood as beautiful as the people who live here,” Ferreras-Copeland said in a statement.

The program will pay for the removal of paint from store fronts and private homes.

Residents interested in having graffiti removed from their property should call Ferreras-Copeland’s office at (718) 651-1917.
